A psychic-medium’s duty of care

A psychic-medium’s duty of care came up in conversation a little while ago, which provided the inspiration for this post.

As psychic-medium practitioners, we have an incredibly important responsibility to use our abilities with the utmost care and integrity. The spiritual guidance we offer to a sitter or querant must be as precise and accurate as possible and not be influenced by personal thoughts or opinions. It is our job to provide the information we receive from Spirit free from judgment, and to prioritise the sitter’s best interests, acknowledging that no reading can guarantee absolute accuracy.

While readings may touch upon legal, financial or medical matters, they are never a substitute for professional advice, and the sitter must be advised of this. Upholding their privacy and maintaining confidentiality is paramount.

We have a responsibility to honour the free will of the sitter, and must never attempt to unduly influence them. And even though Spirit may at times give us information for someone outside of a formal Reading setting, for example, whilst at work or when out socialising, it is not always appropriate to approach the recipient in those situations. Also, readings should not be offered to children under the age of eighteen.

It takes many years of learning, developing and practice to become a skilled psychic-medium, but no matter what the level, we have a duty of care to our sitters, Spirit and fellow community, to follow the highest ethical standards.
